South Park’s New Episode and its Problem

Last night, South Park’s new season began. Good news, right? Well, kind of.

They killed off Chef, and while I don’t have a problem with that, the episode was just way too topical to make sense unless you’d followed things up to that point.  First off towards making the episode funny, you’d have to had seen the episode on Scientology. Then you’d have to know about how pissed off Tom Cruise is about that and then you’d have to know that Isaac Hayes (voice of Chef) quit because he was pissed off about it. That is a lot of prerequisite knowlege for a comedy.

The whole episode is nothing but a flame war with Matt Stone and Trey Parker up against Hayes and Cruise. Its just like those immature “arguments” on Forums only we’re expected to be entertained by it. Its really not a cool thing to do and its ruining the show for anyone who doesn’t know what is going on.  It wouldn’t surprise me if shit like this made the tenth season the last.

And if they’re doing that, then they deserve cancellation.

As Stephen Colbert might say, “South Park, you are dead to me!”
