“Dead to me”

Recently I said that South Park was dead to me. Well, this is truly a lying statement because regardless what I think about a show that I once really liked, I’m almost definitely going to continue watching it. If a new show reveals itself to be weaksauce the first time I watch it, then I’ll have no trouble with stopping myself from watching it.

Regardless how lame South Park has gotten, I’ll keep watching. I’ll always have this thought, living in the back of my head, that it’ll still have a good episode left in it. I was in on the jokes in the recent South Park. It was funny to me but most people aren’t going to be in on the joke. I’m just feeling fairly certain that ther is going to be a backlash.

I think that the creators deserve to realize what they did was totally prickish and why they shouldn’t do it again. You just can’t expect your audience to have seen every episode in a show that has never relied on continuity before. It isn’t fair to the viewer.

But I fall vicitim to this adoration of shows fairly often. You may have heard of this show on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim called Moral Orel. That show had the best first episode I’d ever seen. It has since gon on to do (I think) seven more episodes and compared to the first one, they all sucked. However, I’m going to probably keep watching the series in the hopes that eventually another episode is as good as the first one.

Its just like what happened with the Matrix sequels. People came back to see the third one regardless how pissed off they were about the second one because that first part of the trilogy was so good, it was hard to believe that these people could really have ruined the franchise. This affected me in a particular extreme way. Cases in point: I own the Matrix Trilogy ten disc box set that comes in the awesome plastic case with a statuette of Keanu Reeves. I also own Matrix: Path of Neo for the PC. And I love talking about the movies and reading analysises of them because I think there is really something special there.
So, I invite you, my reader(s) to share your own experiences with things you couldn’t stop liking. Have you ever gotten that hooked on a TV or movie series?
